How to Treat Scabies Naturally

Scabies is an infectious skin condition caused by Sarcoptes scabiei, a mite that burrows under your skin. Its signs and symptoms include rashes, pimple like blisters in a cluster and raised scaly patches.

Good thing is that scabies can be treated with OTC medications and doctor’s prescription as well.

Even you can cure it at home with the help of simple home remedies being rich in antibacterial and antimicrobial properties.

Tea Tree Oil:

Tea tree oil is useful home remedy for scabies as it is packed with antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, acaricidal, and antipruritic. Its antiseptic properties are said to be more efficient than a carbolic acid. According to one study, the oil has terpinene-4-ol which removes the scabies parasite at the first use while its anti-microbial properties will keep the secondary infections at the bay. The oil is also useful to keep the pH level of your skin in balance.

This is why it soothes itching and heals the rash on the skin. It is very simple to use. All you need to mix one tbsp. of tea tree oil with the equal amount of olive oil. Dip a cotton ball into the solution and apply that on the affected part. Repeat this twice in a day for 2-3 weeks to see an improvement.

(Caution: Avoid tea tree oil if you are pregnant women or breastfeeding mothers. The oil may not go well with the sensitive skin. Consult your doctor first.)

Neem Oil:

Neem is a proven home remedy for numbers of skin diseases including scabies. In fact, neem is also known as the botanical pesticide, thanks to its efficient antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. The pure neem oil can remove the bacteria and fungus accumulated in the skin. Even the smell of neem oil can affect the reproductive efficiency of the scabies mites.

Apply pure neem oil directly on the affected part and massage gently until the oil penetrates deep into the skin. Leave it for few minutes and take a bath. Repeat it once daily for several weeks to reduce the infection from spreading.


Onions reduces intense itching that is one of the trademarks of scabies. Besides, it contains organosulfur that directly removes the scabies parasite.

Take onion slices and sprinkle some salt over it. Place the pieces in the bowl and cover it for few minutes. Later, you will find a juice like liquid. Apply this juice on your skin patches with the help of cotton ball.

Or you can extract the juice of the onion and apply it directly over the affected area.

Aloe vera:

Aloe Vera has been known for its therapeutic values and is the trusted remedy for rashes, cold sores, burns and other skin conditions. In Chinese medicines, aloe vera is recommended for the treatment of fungal infection.

Let’s see how to use Aloe vera to treat your scabies:

Extract the gel from aloe vera and apply it on the affected skin. Wait for half an hour and then wash it off with lukewarm water. Repeat it for two or three times a day for a few weeks to see an improvement.

White Vinegar:

White Vinegar’s acidic nature improves the pH level of the skin. And this thing is important in scabies treatment as any change in pH level can kill the mites.

Take equal parts each of white vinegar and water and mix them in a bowl. Apply the solution on the affected parts of the skin with the help of a cotton ball. Leave it for a few minutes and then wash it off with lukewarm water.

Do it three times a day for 2-3 weeks to see an improvement in your condition.

So these are some efficient home remedies for scabies. However, see your physician immediately if you don’t see any improvement in your condition or the scabies turns worse.
